Tl dr What do you guys think about this? Does FFXIV healing and tanking is in the right direction, or could it use changes? If so, what kind of changes would you guys like to see?ītw Guys is this a topic/discussion so worthless of having that it deserves to actually be downvoted? It also provides players with many tools have been neglected but could interact very well with a less binary healing system like mantra, multiple damage reduction tools and life recovering spells besides the ones the healer brings. To me it seems that FFXIV could benefit a lot more from having less powerful healing and diminished reliance on damage spikes due to how much it favors multiple tanks and healers on content. Much like dps, healing is about optimization and its like trying to prevent a boat from completely turning in the tide. Spikes sometimes are unpredicatable but usually don't mean death right away, they just put a tank in dangerous downward spiral that may kill them. The tank receives constant damage that your basic healing abilities can't recover completely so healing and tanking cooldowns serve to give a breathing room in order to catch up. In other games, healing seems like a race to catch up on the accumulating damage. Healing buffs and tanking buffs are aligned to preventing specific moves from annihilating their target and other than these big hits, healers just completely negate any damage with their most basic skills. Damage and healing comes in big chunks and it is all about prediction and timing. In FFXIV healing is a binary proposition, either you heal in time with the hits the tank receives, or he dies - The tank is completely safe or he is dead. One thing that really stood apart was how FFXIV does healing in comparison to other games: As many players might empathize, I can't really go long without playing some sort of mmo and so I've been dipping in other titles just for the sake of it. Since I was getting frustrated by FFXIV I decided to stop playing for a few months.
